Professional Golf/ Benzel hits the links at PGA Cup in Scotland

Ryan Benzel of Bothell teed off Sept. 18 in the 24th PGA Cup at The Carrick on Loch Lomond, Scotland.

He played in one of the foursomes with Jon Bevan (Weymouth, Dorset, England), Lee Rinker (Jupiter, Fla.) and Will Barnes (Lancashire, England).

The U.S. took a 3-1 lead over Great Britain and Ireland, but Benzel and Rinker suffered a 4 and 2 loss.

On Friday’s foursomes, United States captain Brian Whitcomb said in a press release: “I wanted to put our most experienced guys, our national champions, in with players who are making their debut. I think that it will make the match worth a point and a half.

“Ryan and Lee are each experienced, with Lee having the most experience and who is playing very well now. Ryan is extremely talented and I feel that they will complement each other.”
