Sam Drechsel leads Cedar Park volleyball to fifth at 1A state tournament

It’s been a big week for Cedar Park Christian volleyball star Sam Drechsel.

On Nov. 5, the all-conference first-team hitter led the Eagles in qualifying for the state tournament. On Nov. 9, Drechsel signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Maryland.

And on Nov. 12, Drechsel finished with 30 kills in a four-set win over Cascade, leading the team to a fifth-place finish at the Class 1A state tournament in Yakima.

Despite the program’s recent successes, it’s only the third trophy finish in Cedar Park history.

Cedar Park beat Charles Wright, 3-0, in the first round before losing in straight sets to Freeman. The Eagles went on to beat Annie Wright 3-2 on Saturday morning and beat Cascade 25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18 in the fifth-place match.

Drechsel finished with 91 kills in the tournament. Chloe Biscup, who signed with Western Washington University on Nov. 9, had 40 kills in four matches.

The trophy match was the final action for Cedar Park seniors Drechsel, the Biscup sisters Chloe and Tess, Emily McKenzie and Madyson Trout.
