LPGA veteran Nancy Scranton hopes to defend her title when the LPGA Legends Tour returns to Kenmore this month for The Legends Swing for the Cure tournament. The 18-hole event will be staged July 28 at Inglewood Golf Club.
“It’s nice to have good memories and I’m going to rely on the ones I have there from last year,” said Scranton, a five-time Legends Tour champion who also won in April this year at the Walgreens Charity Championship in Florida. “I always played well in the Pacific Northwest when I was on the LPGA Tour and I’m looking forward to continuing that on The Legends Tour.”
The official senior tour of the LPGA returns for a second year to Kenmore for the Swing for the Cure tournament presented by MulvannyG2. A field of 30 Legends will compete for a $150,000 purse.
The tournament field will feature LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famers Pat Bradley, JoAnne “Big Mama” Carner, a native of Kirkland, Wash., and Patty Sheehan. These three players have combined for 109 wins on the LPGA Tour, including 14 major championships. Sheehan and Bradley also have four wins between them on The Legends Tour.
Other notables in the field will include: Rosie Jones, the 2011 U.S. Solheim Cup captain, a five-time Legends Tour winner and a 13-time LPGA Tour winner; Canadians Dawn Coe-Jones, Gail Graham and Nancy Harvey; Japan’s Mieko Nomura; and breast-cancer survivor Shelley Hamlin of California.
In addition, LPGA Tour veterans Jane Blalock, Jan Stephenson and Val Skinner will also appear. Blalock won 29 times on the LPGA Tour and holds the record for most consecutive professional tournament cuts made at 299. Stephenson is a 16-time LPGA Tour champion with three wins on The Legends Tour, and Skinner won six times in her LPGA Tour career before moving into television broadcasting.
Tee times will start at 10:30 a.m., with gates open at 9 a.m. Tickets are $20 for adults. Admission is free to kids 17 and under and all military personnel with ID.
