The Bothell High School football team got a dose of reality Friday, losing 22-19 against Eastlake at home to start the season.

The defending state champions fell behind early as Eastlake scored on a short run during the first quarter.

The Cougars recovered and marched down the field to score a touchdown on a 12-yard pass from quarterback Jacob Sirmon to Marcus Henry.

Eastlake took a 15-7 lead heading into half time thanks to a 21-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion.

That lead ballooned to 22-7 as Eastlake scored on 38-yard touchdown pass to open the second half.

The Cougars never gave up, running back Caleb Meyer scored on a 20-yard touchdown run and Sirmon found Paul Hanrahan for a 23-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to three points during the third quarter.

However, the final quarter of play was a defensive struggle and neither team was able to score.

The Cougars will try to get on track Friday for a 7 p.m. kick off, as they travel to Issaquah to take on the Eagles.
