Bothell Youth Court celebrated its first Anniversary by reflecting upon a full year of youth traffic court cases.

The purpose of the youth court is to prevent teen drivers from continuing to exhibit actions that lead to future unsafe behavior. The teen court is modeled on Restorative Justice which allows youth to focus on how reckless driving impacts their surrounding community.

This year, six youth jury members stood inside the courtroom for a case involving cell phone use while driving. In deliberation, the jury circled around a table and discussed how the offender harmed the community and how his actions could be repaired. They concluded that the offender’s disposition would include 30 hours of community service and serving twice as a jury member at Bothell Youth Court.

Over the past year, Bothell Youth court has resolved 26 court cases.
