Bothell resident Kris Hoglan has been named August Volunteer of the Month by Save a Forgotten Equine (SAFE) where she volunteers weekly to mix feed for rescued horses.

“You might think filling grain bags is a small task, but the horses love their grain,” said Volunteer Coordinator Kit Topaz. “Kris comes every week to sort and measure the myriad of supplements we feed to keep our horses in tip-top condition.”

Hoglan works full time in the mortgage industry. She has been a SAFE volunteer for three years.

“There’s something really soothing and peaceful about being there,” Hoglan said. “Even though I might be having a tiring day and just want to go home, I am always in great spirit when I leave the barn.”

On a daily basis, dedicated SAFE volunteers ensure that horses have adequate food, water, and a clean living environment. Anyone interested in volunteering with SAFE can contact Volunteer@safehorses.org.
