Cadet Heath is ready to soar with U.S. Air Force Academy

The sky’s the limit for Cadet Lt. Molly Heath.
Heath, a cadet officer in Washington Wing’s Northshore Composite Squadron in Bothell, has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy in the class of 2013.
“I’d like to be a pilot in the Air Force for as long as they allow me, but my ultimate goal is to be an astronaut,” Heath said of her career goals.
Heath received two nominations to the Air Force Academy, one from Washington Sen. Patty Murray and another from Washington Rep. Jay Inslee. She received her appointment with an official letter and leather-bound Certificate of Appointment Feb. 26.
“I was so excited. I was shaking; I could hardly believe it. They (my parents) were extremely proud for me and were really happy that all my determination and hard work finally pulled through,” she said.
Heath is already a private pilot, earning her license in October 2008.
Heath attends Aviation High near Seattle. The school’s mission is “to prepare students for college, work and citizenship through a personalized, rigorous and relevant learning experience that is facilitated in the context of aviation and aerospace.” As a student, Heath was associated student body president and vice president and has maintained an academically rigorous schedule, including multiple advanced-placement classes while achieving a 3.9 grade-point average.
