The first of four suspects in a hotel beating and robbery at a Bothell motel on Jan. 2 has been convicted of first-degree robbery.

Bret Adam Pettey, 27, of Marysville was sentenced to three years and five months in prison for his part in the beating and robbery of two men at the Bothell Holiday Inn Express. Pettey will also have to pay a fine of $600 and serve 18 months in community custody after his release from prison.

Pettey was also served with a no-contact order for the two victims.

The Marysville man, along with Jessica Lynn Cadigan, 24, of Seattle; Jason Lee Rowberry, 37, of Everett; and James Thomas Woodruff, 42, of Lynnwood, were each charged with first-degree robbery. The other three suspects have trial continuance dates set for June and July.

Pettey could have received life in prison for the crime.

The two victims were beaten at the motel after one of them agreed to let a childhood friend stay the night. The woman, later identified as Cadigan, claimed to be having a fight with her boyfriend. One of the men left the room to go for a walk with Cadigan when the three other suspects, including Pettey, came into the room and beat the other victim with a gun.

When Cadigan and the second victim came back he was also beaten. The suspects stole one of the victim’s Mercedes, both mens’ money and some illegal drugs.

Police eventually found the Mercedes and the suspects.

Pettey also has a previous felony conviction for possession of a stolen vehicle from 2009, for which he served one year in prison, along with 15 misdemeanor convictions.
