The following is a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation:

Drivers traveling on Interstate 405 between Bellevue and Lynnwood early Monday morning, Aug. 17, will notice tests for toll rates on signs throughout the corridor.

Between 12:01 and 3 a.m. Monday, drivers will see toll rates displayed on many of the I-405 express toll lane rate signs. Variable message signs will notify drivers that testing is in progress and that no tolls will be charged.

Engineers with the Washington State Department of Transportation will also test other messages, including “HOV 3+ FREE W/FLEX PASS,” “HOV 2+ FREE W/FLEX PASS,” “HOV ONLY,” “OPEN TO ALL” and “CLOSED.”

Drivers do not need to take any action, and the HOV lanes will continue to operate as usual until the express toll lanes open.

Once the express toll lanes open in September, carpools with the eligible number of passengers—three people during weekday peak periods and two people during off-peak periods—must have a Good To Go! account and Flex Pass to travel in the express toll lanes for free.
