Kenmore Mayor David Baker has been unanimously elected vice president of the Sound City Association (SCA), which represents 36 cities in King County, and provides a regional voice for nearly one million people.
“Thanks to the leadership of Mayor Baker on our Board, SCA enjoyed unprecedented success in our efforts to build long-term community and economic prosperity of our region and state,” said SCA Executive Director Deanna Dawson.
As mayor of the city of Kenmore, Baker has held the line against property tax increases and spearheaded the move to lower utility taxes and supported balanced budgets, ensuring the Council spends tax dollars to benefit Kenmore citizens. He works hard to improve local traffic problems, to be a strong voice on regional issues that are important to the future of Kenmore, and to help provide the business community with the environment it needs prosper. As a business owner in Kenmore, he supports efforts to retain existing businesses and promote economic development. He has also supported workforce housing in the new downtown, while preserving Kenmore’s single-family neighborhoods. Baker also serves as vice chair of the Advisory Council on Aging and Disability Services, on the King County Board of Health, and on the Harborview Board of Trustees.
SCA provides a voice for King County cities through leadership in areas such as economic and community development, transportation, land use, health, government operations, the environment, education, public safety, social welfare and other public policy issues.
SCA, which was formerly known as the Suburban Cities Association, was established more than 40 years ago to help King County cities act locally and partner regionally to create vital and thriving communities through advocacy, education, leadership, mutual support and networking.
