The city of Kenmore officially opened the new floating dock at Squire’s Landing Park to the public on May 19.

Kenmore City Council members, staff, project contributors and community members held a ribbon-cutting celebration during the Kenmore Waterfront Activities Fair. The fair featured a 20K paddle race from Luke McRedmond Landing in Redmond to Squire’s Landing Park, where all attendees had the opportunity to experience different types of hand-powered watercraft for free, including kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and a dragon boat.

The city of Kenmore purchased this residential property in 2014. It included an old floating dock with a makeshift ramp. In spite of its condition, the public immediately put it to use as a place to launch hand-powered kayaks and paddleboards. This project replaced the float and paved the gravel access path and accessible parking stall. For more on the float project, visit kenmorewa.gov/SquiresLandingFloat.

As one of the three waterfront access projects included in the voter-approved Walkways and Waterways Initiative, Squire’s Landing Park will be improving greatly in the near future. Eleven acres of Squire’s Landing will receive water access improvements featuring elevated walkways, trails, viewpoints, docks, ramps, parking and more.
