Bothell-based BioLife Solutions to be issued new biopreservation patent

Bothell-based BioLife Solutions, Inc. announced on Jan. 29 that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has notified the company of a new patent, to be issued on Feb. 4.

The company is a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of proprietary clinical grade hypothermic storage and cryopreservation freeze media and precision thermal shipping products for cells and tissues.

BioLife’s new patent, number 8,642,255, and titled, “Materials and methods for hypothermic collection of whole blood,” includes claims related to hypothermic preservation and storage of whole blood and blood components using the company’s HypoThermosol cell and tissue storage/shipping medium.

“This new patent broadens our intellectual property estate,” said Mike Rice, BioLife Solutions CEO. “We continue to research new applications where our proprietary biopreservation media formulations and can extend shelf life and improve post-preservation viability and function of cells and tissues Effective for Collection and Storage of Whole Blood and Components.”
