The Northwest Watercolor Society announced that Charlene Collins Freeman of Kenmore was accepted into its 21st Annual Waterworks 2012 Membership Exhibition, Oct. 23 through Nov. 28.

The painting accepted is titled London Sweets. The exhibition will be held at Kaewyn Gallery, 10101 Main Street in Bothell. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. 4 p.m.

“Waterworks” is an annual exhibition of works executed exclusively by NWWS members. Quality and diversity have become the trademarks of this exhibition. This annual event showcases the best work of the Society’s membership, featuring 55 paintings from 181 entries selected by internationally known artist Stan Miller, this year’s juror. Almost $5,000 in cash and merchandise prizes will be awarded at the exhibition’s reception and awards ceremony from 6–8 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Kaewyn Gallery in Bothell.

“It has been our experience that the artwork of our membership is always incredibly creative and extraordinary … and this year was no exception,” said Molly Murrah, exhibition chair. “Add to that the fact that one of the finest watercolorists in the United States — Stan Miller — is our juror, and we have ended up with an exhibition of the highest quality.”

Stan Miller is an award-winning artist (the Desser Award for Painting) and signature member of the American Watercolor Society. He received first place in The Artist’s Magazine 2004 National Competition. In 2006 he won the grand prize in the Watercolor Magic Magazine National Competition.

Pratique Des Arts, a French art magazine, recently published an article about Stan and his work. Stan has instructed workshops for such groups as the Canadian Federation of Artists and En Plein Air Masters (south of Paris, France). He was an exhibition juror and workshop instructor for the Georgia Watercolor Society in Athens, Ga. and recently taught a workshop for Casa De Los Artistas, in Puerto Vallarta.
