Bothell’s Kastning earns Western scholarship

Western Washington University student Brianna Kastning, daughter of Kevin and Vicki Kastning of Bothell, received a $3,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year.

President’s Scholarships are awarded to approximately the top eight to 10 percent of incoming freshmen and transfer students and are based on superior academic achievement.

Kastning, an entering freshman at WWU, earned a 3.89 grade-point average from Bothell High. She is planning to major in pre-med and biology.

Kastning was a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist and a recipient of the Nick Jewett Memorial Softball Scholarship. She has been recognized by the Washington State Principals’ Scholar Program and the President’s Education Awards for Outstanding Academic Excellence.

Kastning was also a member of the varsity softball team and newspaper staff. She volunteered in her church nursery program and participated in missionary trips with her church.

Her professional goals include becoming a pediatrician.
