Families needed to welcome children of Chernobyl

Since 1995, “For the Children of the World” has hosted children from the country of Belarus. This year, they are branching out and hosting new children from Ukraine.

Local families are invited to take part in this mission.

It’s been more than 23 years since the Chernobyl disaster, but more than 750,000 children are still living in the most contaminated areas. With constant bombardment from low-level radiation, it is not always possible to provide these children with nutritious food or medical care. The mission is to provide a health respite and rest for these children, providing them basic medical and dental care and a chance to replenish their system with a clean environment and healthy food. A six-week visit away from contamination can add years to a child’s life.

Twenty-five children from the Ukraine are dreaming of a trip to the U.S. and host families are needed to provide support for these young victims of the world’s worst nuclear disaster.

The children will arrive June 19 and return home Aug. 5. Those interested in hosting a child (or sharing host responsibilities) can contact Elizabeth Tennison at (206) 915-5670 or visit www.ftcotw.org.
