King County Sheriff’s deputy hit by car near airport

The deputy was responding to reports of a car blocking the roadway with a passed out driver inside.

A King County Sheriff’s Office deputy is recovering from injuries after reportedly being struck by a car near Sea-Tac Airport on April 10.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the 14400 block of Des Moines Memorial Drive South at 5:10 a.m. to deal with a suspicious vehicle that was blocking the road.

Responding deputies reportedly found the driver of the vehicle passed out behind the wheel. When deputies attempted to contact the driver, the driver tried to flee in the vehicle and, in the process, struck a deputy.

The vehicle was reportedly stopped a short distance away, and the driver was taken into custody.

According to a King County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, the deputy who was struck was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and is now recovering at home.

The incident is still being investigated by authorities.
