A man is in custody after Bothell police arrested him for entering a stranger’s apartment with a knife and then solicited sex.

The suspect, Zachariah M. Higuera, entered the 18-year-old woman’s apartment the night of June 2 in the Husky Village Apartments, located on the UW Bothell Campus, according to investigators.

Prosecutors said Higuera attempted to hug the woman, took off his pants and asked her if she wanted to have sex with him. Higuera was arrested in the apartment parking lot after another man told an officer he was trying to open doors.

The woman told police she didn’t know the man, and prosecutors call him a danger to the community. Police are investigating Higuera for attempting to break into two other residences that same night. He has been charged with one count of first-degree burglary.

His criminal history includes a 2005 conviction for second-degree burglary. Higuera also has several other misdemeanor convictions, including theft, malicious mischief, telephone harassment and drug possession.

The state requested that Higuera’s bail be set at $500,000, and he remains in King County Jail. Higuera’s arraignment, where he’s expected to enter a plea, is scheduled for later this month.
