Theft from vehicle

Police said the suspect possibly used a shaved key to gain entry to a car parked in a residential lot in the 9200 block of Northeast 148th Court. Reports did not say what was taken, but gave the value of any missing items as $30.

Theft

A man, 28, was arrested for third-degree theft after trying to walk off with $70 in items from an unidentified retailer in the 21000 block of State Route 527. Police say the suspect put several bed sheets into a backpack and tried to leave the store.

Car theft

A 1992 Honda Accord valued at $1,500 was stolen from an apartment complex in the 10700 block of Ross Road. The car later was found abandoned on Beardslee Boulevard. Reports did not say anything about damage to the car.

Arson

Police say they have a suspect, but have no made arrests, after someone set fire to a trash container in front of Canyon Park Junior High on 23rd Avenue Southeast. The suspect was described as a juvenile male, 14. The amount of damage done was not listed.

Residential burglary

A laptop computer valued at $400 was stolen from an apartment on 68th Avenue Northeast. Reports say there was no sign of forced entry into the residence.

Residential burglary

A laptop computer valued at $1,400 was stolen, along with a purse, from a residence in the 15200 block of 69th Lane Northeast. Police say a juvenile resident was in the home at the time of the theft and allegedly spotted a classmate inside the residence. Reports say police had been unable to located the suspect as of deadline for this issue.

Child abuse

No charges have been filed, but police followed up when a local teacher reported the possible abuse of a student. After being confronted, reports say the boy’s mother admitted to burning both her son’s hands with a hot iron after he was caught stealing from his home and also shoplifting. Reports further said the punishment took place over a year ago. The boy, whose age was not released, suffered scars but no other problems were reported. Other children in the home were described as being in “good appearance.”
