UW-Bothell introduces Everett Middle School students to higher education, wetlands

The University of Washington, Bothell hosted 280 students from Everett’s Eisenhower Middle School March 3. The visit was part of an outreach program engineered to help middle-school students identify more closely with higher education.
The students received a brief presentation followed by a campus tour, some time to interact with current university students and a tour of the wetlands, which take up more than half of the UW-Bothell campus and are part of one of the largest wetlands restoration projects in the Pacific Northwest.
In February, 360 eighth-grade students from Everett’s Evergreen Middle School also visited the campus.
UW-Bothell Associate Director of Admissions Lindsey Wille states that “one of the best ways to promote higher education to middle- and high-school students is by actually showing them what our university has to offer. Campus tours inform students about the process of transitioning into college, convey the mentality necessary to be a successful student, and demonstrate the excitement of university life enjoyed by UW-Bothell students. Most importantly, our goal is to inspire students to realize that they can actually attend college.”
The UW-Bothell Office of Admissions hosts a variety of events throughout the year, which are targeted to local high-school students. The campus also offers daily tours for the public at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. For tour registration information, visit uwb.edu.
