The University of Washington, Bothell will be hosting several events Nov. 8 to commemorate Veterans Day.

Events include a craft project presented by the Campus Events Board, a student barbeque and various speakers throughout the day.

Included in the day’s events is a workshop titled, “Families of Those Who Serve: Understanding Challenges on the Other Side of War,” presented by Steve and Lisa Tice.

Steve is a certified trauma specialist with nearly 30 years of experience in the field of post traumatic stress disorder treatment. He is also a Vietnam War veteran. Lisa is a military and family life consultant with the Joint Family Support Assistance Program (JFSAP) for Washington state. Lisa travels all over Washington state to provide confidential, solution-focused individual, couple and family counseling to military service members and their families from all branches of the military.

Steve and Lisa’s workshop will be held from 2-3 p.m. in UW1-021 on the UW-Bothell campus. This event is free and open to the public.

To round the day out, the Associated Students of the University of Washington Bothell and the chancellor’s office will be hosting a Veterans Day reception.

During the reception, Michael Gregoire (spouse of Gov. Chris Gregoire) and director John Lee from the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs will be in attendance as UW-Bothell becomes a member of Partners for Veteran Supportive Campuses. Additionally, UW-Bothell will be officially recognized by the state of Washington as a veteran-friendly campus.

Of the recognition, UW-Bothell Chancellor, Kenyon Chan, says, “It is such an honor for the University of Washington, Bothell to be officially recognized by the state of Washington as a veteran-friendly campus. This recognizes our commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all veterans.”

The reception is open to the public and will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. on the UW-Bothell campus in UW1-280.
