Bothell boys pull off Spartan-sized upset of No. 3 Skyline

Bothell guard Zach LaVine came up huge for the Cougars last night on the road in their 4A Kingco tournament opener, scoring 27 points to lead the team to a monster upset of No. 3-ranked Skyline, 63-60. The Spartans had earned the No. 1 seed in the Crest Division with their 13-1 league record heading into the game, and Bothell the No. 4 seed in the Crown.

The Cougars held a 29-27 lead at the break, with both teams improving offensively in the second half.

Nursing a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, Bothell was able to come up with key stops to hold off the Spartans down the stretch.

For Bothell, Perrion Callandret added 19, with Kellen Webster pitching in 14.

With the win, the Cougars (13-8 overall) advance to the tournament semifinals against Issaquah this Friday at Juanita High School, tipoff at 8:15 p.m.

In their previous meeting this season, Issaquah beat Bothell 79-68 back on Jan. 10.
