Bothell took on Issaquah and Inglemoor matched up against Garfield on Thursday afternoon at 4A Kingco track meets, with a number of Cougars and Vikings turning in winning performances.
For Bothell, Danny Wilson won the 100 meters (11.0 seconds), senior Nick Anthony won the 400 meters by nearly three seconds with a time of 52.6, Dean Willis (2:07.8) won the 800 meters with teammates Dustin Rohde and Nathan Conrad close behind in second and third.
Teddy Pierce and Sully Cothran finished one-two in the 1,600 meters, and seniors James LeGresley and Conrad were tops in the 3,200-meter distance race.
In the field, Morgunn Ewing’s shot put of 41 feet, 10 inches was good for a win, as was Zach Rayburn’s discus toss of 106-1.
Ewing crushed his personal best in the javelin with a heave of 163-7.5 and Reed Mowrey cleared 12-6 in the pole to win by a foot and a half.
On the girls’ side, the 400 relay team of Allie Hadley, Katey Kirkham, Ally Quintos and Jessica Howe emerged winners in 52.7 seconds. In the field, Kelsey Sloan took the discus (82-9) and Hadley routed the field in the javelin (127-6.5). Hadley’s javelin toss on Thursday was the best of her prep career, and currently the ninth-best in the state at the 4A level.
Inglemoor’s boys team (80-64) and girls team (96-52) both beat Garfield on Thursday.
On the boys’ side, the Vikings swept the hurdles events, with junior Dillon Gongliewski winning the 110-meter event in 16.06, and Quinn Edlin taking the 300 meter in 43.01.
The Viking boys also swept all the field events with the exception of the triple jump. Connor Peasley won the shot put (41-1), Titus Makasini won the discus (120-3), Risto McFeeley had a personal best in the javelin (138-8) and teammates Joseph Massey and Sam Omondi tied in the high jump (5-8). Omondi also won the long jump with a leap of 19-2.
On the girls’ side, Brooke Monson won the 100-meter sprint in 13.35, Kaitlyn Hollis won the 200 meters in 27.22, and Anne Seckinger completed the sprint sweep with a win in 1:01.22, and the Vikings’ teams also won all three relay races in addition to Claire Moses winning the 300-meter hurdles in 50.30.
The Vikings also won four of the seven field events: Discus, (Ashley Allemeier, 80-7), javelin (Katie Schumacher, 99-04), pole vault (Katie Mohn, 8-6) and long jump (Mohn, 15-4.5).
Bothell tennis sweeps Ballard
The Bothell girls’ tennis team did not give up a set against Ballard Thursday afternoon, sweeping the Beavers in a 4A Kingco tennis match 7-0.
The day got underway with a thriller at No. 1 singles, as Colleen Byrne beat Rachael Thomson in a hard-fought battle, 7-5, 7-6 (6). Also winning in singles were Erika Takano over Alyssa Ledgerwood, 6-1, 6-1; Morgan Milner beating Sita Pongthunyavinya 6-1, 6-2 and Tammy Tarhini nearly sweeping Enjuli Chhaniara 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles action, Linda Vinithantharat and Rachel Wharf (6-0, 6-2), Sharon Akota and Raven Anderson (6-1, 6-3) and Lauren Weldy and Amanda Ernster (6-2, 6-0) each won their matches with ease.
