The dream of a state title for the Bothell High School girls basketball team came to an end Friday at the Tacoma Dome.

Gonzaga Prep proved to be too much for the Cougars, as they lost, 54-29, during the first-round game.

Bothell struggled from the start, scoring just six points during the first eight minutes of play and trailed by 10 points entering the second quarter.

The Cougars did a better job of keeping pace during the second quarter but still entered halftime down 34-21.

The offensive struggles returned during the second half, as Bothell scored just four points during each of the final two periods.

Kenyonna Jones led the Cougars with 14 points. However, Prep did a good job of shutting down the Bothell’s Most Valuable Player and leading scorer this season, Taya Corosdale, who finished with nine points. Gonzaga had two players who scored 20 or more points during the contest.

Bothell continues on in the tournament on Friday during the consolation bracket. The Cougars will face Walla Walla during the fourth place semifinal game at 2 p.m.
