Bothell’s Brandon Stride swims state-qualifying time in loss to Skyline

Bothell High’s Brandon Stride swam a state championships-qualifying time during a conference meet against Skyline on Thursday at the Juanita Pool in Kirkland, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1 minute, 1.57 seconds.

Stride was the clear-cut leader in the pool for Bothell (1-2 KingCo) on Thursday, also winning the 200 individual medley and narrowly missing the state-qualifying mark.

Skyline won the meet, 120-56, but Bothell coach Jordan Redford said each Bothell swimmer either swam in a new event for the first time or set a season-best mark.

Cameron Birrell finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:15.95, and Corey Stride — brother to Brandon — finished second in the 100 breaststroke.

Next, the Cougars are set to take on Eastlake at 3 p.m. on Jan. 10 at the Redmond Pool.
