Bothell’s Dennis pitches his way to University of Portland honor

Bothell native Chris Dennis closed the deal on another honor last Friday at the University of Portland.

At the Pilots’ women’s soccer opener, baseball pitcher Dennis and soccer forward Danielle Foxhoven were named 2009-10 Fr. Chester Prusynski Student-Athletes of the Year.

After transferring from Edmonds Community College, Dennis earned the role of closer during fall practices and had a record-breaking spring. His 14 saves established not only a new Pilot single-season record, but also a career record, and tied for third in the nation. He earned spots on the National College Baseball Writers Association and Louisville Slugger All-America Teams and was an All-West Coast Conference (WCC) First Team selection. He posted a 5-1 record with a 1.88 earned-run average as opponents struggled to a .204 batting average against the right-hander. Dennis struck out 51 batters in 43.0 innings of relief.

Dennis has a 3.76 cumulative grade-point average and is majoring in finance. He was a WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll Gold Award recipient after posting a 3.66 GPA during his first year at Portland.
