Cedar Park qualifies for tri-districts

In Cedar Park Christian boys’ first Emerald City League basketball playoff game against Overlake last week, the team showed its passion with a 52-45 win. Junior Tommy McCullough took center court with 15 points, while teammate Jeff Doherty added 11 points.

In Cedar Park Christian boys’ first Emerald City League basketball playoff game against Overlake last week, the team showed its passion with a 52-45 win. Junior Tommy McCullough took center court with 15 points, while teammate Jeff Doherty added 11 points.

In the second round, Cedar Park fans cheered and rooted for their team against Bellevue Christian for top seeding at the 1 A/B tri-district playoffs. Senior Brandon Duffy and McCullough each contributed 15 points. After four quarters, the nervous fans glanced at the scoreboard and waited for overtime as two rival teams would fight to the end. Two overtimes later, Bellevue Christian took a close 68-62 win.

Cedar Park then lost to University Prep, 56-47, but qualified for this week’s tri-districts.

• In Cedar Park girls’ action, the Eagles played strong and defeated Overlake, 60-56, in the first round of the ECL playoffs last week. Mattie Shelford scored 18 points and Mikaela Raschick added 14 points,.

The girls then lost to Bellevue Christian and Seattle Academy, but will participate in this week’s tri-districts. Shelford lets on about the Eagles’ preparation for the next game, “We’re just really talking positively, and working hard. Mostly working on our shots, not trying to get too tired, and pushing each other. We need to improve on overall team playing and communication on the court. Knowing what the other player is doing so we can make a better play.”
