Viking boys make a date with state

Fueled by a 17-2 second-half run, the Inglemoor High Vikings earned their first state berth since 2006 with a 71-59 win over the Issaquah Eagles last Friday in the second round of the 4A Kingco Tournament.

Fueled by a 17-2 second-half run, the Inglemoor High Vikings earned their first state berth since 2006 with a 71-59 win over the Issaquah Eagles last Friday in the second round of the 4A Kingco Tournament.

Viking guard Benji Bryant led the late charge with 10 points during the run and a team-high 21 overall as Inglemoor rallied for 26 points in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Todd Campbell added 16 for the Vikings.

The Vikings will play for the Kingco championship against Garfield at 8:15 p.m. Friday at Juanita High.

Inglemoor girls

The Lady Viks were unable to overcome a sluggish start against Issaquah in Saturday’s winner-to-state game at Juanita High, losing to the Eagles, 52-37.

The Vikings managed only 10 points in the first quarter to the Eagles’ 20, and trailed 30-16 at the half as Issaquah coasted to the win.

Lynsey Sandum led Inglemoor with nine points, followed by Brynn Hamel with eight and Sarah Butterfield with six.

Up next for the Inglemoor was a loser-out contest Feb. 24 against Newport, after the Reporter’s deadline.
