“The pieces all came together and all six of those girls played well on the court,” said Vikingshead coach Milton Guerreiro.

The Vikings were led by senior Haley Harris, who finished with 32 kills and 21 digs. Harris was voted First Team All KingCo.

“She is our best player on offense and defense and she had been doing it all year,” Geurreiro said. “But the entire team really got together [during the tournament]. They just played well as a team.”

Emily Melillo led the team in assists with 43.

The victory came following 3-0 sweeps against Redmond, during the semifinals, and Mount Si during the first round.

“They played a heck of a game,” Geurreiro said. “It really shows what matters is how you finish.”

Overall, the Vikings finished the regular season with a 4-4 in-league record and 12-6 overall.

Geurreiro was also voted Coach of Year for the 4A KingCo league.

“It is a great honor but its not for me,” Geurreiro said. “It takes those girls to play well to get that.”

Kate Carpenter was named Defensive Player of the Year.

The team now moves on to play for the  state championship in Kennewick on Nov. 13-14.
