Playing in the consolation finals of the Kaufman Holiday Classic at Bothell High last Friday, the high-octane offenses of Bothell and Kentwood faced off and the nets got scorched to the tune of a 82-73 Cougar victory.
Bothell held the Conquerors to just 10 points in the second quarter to open up a 39-27 lead at the break, before both teams lit up in the third, scoring 27 points each.
In the end, Bothell was able to hold on for the victory.
Guard Zach LaVine increased his league-leading average (25.9 points per game) by pouring in 32 for the Cougars, with Prince Lacey (17), Kellen Webster (14) and Perrion Callandret (13) also in double digits.
The win evened the Cougars’ record at 4-4 on the season. The team continues with 4A Kingco action tonight against Newport, at Newport High, at 8 p.m., and has a cross-town rivalry matchup against Bellevue College Tournament champions Inglemoor on Friday night, also at 8 p.m.
Cedar Park Christian routs Shoreline Christian
It was a true team effort for the Cedar Park boys as nine different Eagles contributed to a 55-16 rout of Shoreline Christian at home last Friday night.
Trey Dreschel led all scorers with 11, followed by Even Scholten with nine and Scottie Lin with eight.
Earlier in the week, the Eagles played in the Nooksack Valley Invitational, and split their two games, edging out Nooksack Valley 58-53 with a huge fourth-quarter comeback before falling to Ferndale 50-43.
The Eagles get back into 1A Emerald City League play tonight at 8 p.m. at Bellevue Christian.
Lady Eagles go 1-2 at King’s tourney
Playing in the King’s Gift of Life Tournament at King’s School in Mountlake Terrace, the Cedar Park Girls’ team won once in three tries, defeating Nathan Hale 47-37 in the middle game before falling to Mountlake Terrace by an identical score in the finals.
In their tournament opener, the Eagles lost to River Ridge 41-33.
For the tournament, University of Montana-bound Rachel Staudacher led all players with 54 total points.
The girls are now 4-5 overall on the season and get back into action tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Bellevue Christian.
