Viking swimmers fifth at districts, heading to state swim meet in Federal Way

The Inglemoor High boys' swim team performed well at last weekend's Sea-King District meet at Husky Pool, placing fifth with 145 team points, just four points out of third place. Issaquah won the meet with 233 team points.

Inglemoor’s relay teams were especially strong, setting state-qualifying times in the 200 medley relay (Mateusz Merchel, Casey Colella, Andy Champan, Matthew Yusen, 1:44.22, 3rd) and the 400 free relay (Colella, Josaiah Clark, Merchel, Yusen, 3:26.03, 4th).

Individually, Yusen placed fourth in the 50 free in 23.20, with teammate Merchel a fraction behind in 23.39.

Colella had a new personal best in the grueling 500 free, 4:52.15, for second place, and the junior came back later to place fourth in the 100 breaststroke with another state qualifying time of 1:02.63.

Teammates Seth Birrell and Merchel shined in the backstroke, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively with state times of 56.32 and 56.68.

For Bothell, Matt Williamson placed fourth in the 500 free (5:01.30) and the 200 IM (2:06.30).

The state meet, held in Federal Way at the King County Aquatics Center, begins on Friday at 2:30 p.m., with the finals starting at 2:15 on Saturday.
