Voting for Smith and Phillips for school board | Letter

I recently moved to Kenmore to live with my daughter and her family. I love my new community. It is a friendly place, and I hope to become part of my granddaughter's school community as a grandparent volunteer. This really is a great place to live.

The other day I asked my daughter why I am not seeing political campaign signs everywhere like I did in my old home town. She explained to me that campaign sings are prohibited in public right-of-ways within Kenmore city limits as well as in unincorporated King County. I don’t know what prompted these jurisdictions to pass laws prohibiting the signage, but I do like that they exist. The streets look much nicer not littered with political signs.

That being said, I am very disappointed to see that two candidates running for two different positions on the school board have chosen to ignore the law. Cogan and Hammond, both endorsed by the teachers union, have plastered their signs all around Kenmore and unincorporated King County. If they are unwilling to respect the law on something as simple as campaign signage, then what other laws will they be willing to ignore if elected to the school board?

I will be voting for those candidates for school board who respect my community and its laws. Ken Smith and Berta Phillips have my vote.
