Inglemoor student announced as speaker for Northshore Schools Foundation Luncheon

The Northshore Schools Foundation is proud to announce Inglemoor High School student Spencer Lane as the student speaker for the Annual Light A Fire for Learning Luncheon March 28 at the Lynnwood Convention Center.

Lane, a junior, thrives in the interactive learning environment that is a trademark of the Northshore School District’s Sustainable Engineering and Design Course, offered as a part of Northshore School District’s Career and Technical Education program.

The course focuses on understanding the responsibilities of designers and the design cycle and how successful innovation impacts the consumer, industry and the environment, also referred to as the triple bottom line.

This flagship program is well known for it’s cutting edge connection with Industry partners such as McKinstry and Dykeman, Inc, and its mobile green learning lab, the Green Machine, that teaches elementary students about energy.  Since 2010, the Foundation has made an concerted effort to fund innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering  & Math), College readiness, and Career preparation programs to help prepare our students to meet the needs of the global economy.

“This class has inspired me to pursue sustainable design for my future,” Lane said.

Spencer joins a collection of speakers including, Seattle Foundation CEO Norman Rice, Puget Sound Energy’s Andy Wappler and Cascadia Community College President Dr. Eric Murray who will speak to the importance of insuring that K-12 students graduate career and college ready with a skill set to support the job demand of the future.

This 10th annual luncheon for the Northshore Schools Foundation is a benchmark event for the growing Foundation that provided more than $125,000 in grant support to the Northshore School District in 2012.   Funds raised at the event go to funding the Foundation’s funding initiatives which include supporting Literacy and Arts; STEM Education; support for Advanced and Disadvantaged Learners; Health & Enhancement; and, Teacher Excellence in all thirty one Northshore schools.
