Woodmoor Elementary summer reading program is a success

Let the reading continue.
The Northshore Schools Foundation wrote a $1,000 grant to help fund Woodmoor Elementary’s Summer Open Library (SOL) program for students and families.
Along with funds from Woodinville Rotary, they were able to pay to bus students to Woodmoor every Wednesday for eight weeks in two rotations, 1-2 p.m. and 2-3 p.m., to check out books, listen to teachers read to them, read to volunteers and engage in fun literacy activities.
Volunteers included Woodmoor teachers and instructional assistants, the school nurse, principals, parents, high-school students, members of the community, as well as weekly participation from at least 10 dogs and owners from the Reading with Rover program.
Northshore School District Superintendent Larry Francois visited the students to read with them recently.
“From the number and enthusiasm of the volunteers to the excitement on the faces of the kids to the Reading with Rover dogs…what a great opportunity for some of our students most in need of staying engaged over the summer to sustain and build their reading skills,” Francois said.
