We need a candidate to serve us in Olympia who understands and can relate to all the communities in our district. Jim Langston is certainly the man for this job.
The proposed Regional Proposition 1 (ST 3) is a $54 billion tax and spend proposal that would have a long lasting and huge impact on the finances of the City of Bothell and our region. ST3 is way out of the realm of reasonableness. It buys trains to Seattle at 12 times the cost of WSDOT’s $4.6 billion SR 520 Bridge Replacement Program.
Bothell’s population has nearly increased 10,000 people over the span of six years. Traffic, detours, and new housing developments are creating issues throughout the city daily. King County employment rate grew 3.6 percent in 2015. Sounds good, right? The construction employment grew 18.4 percent in the first quarter of 2015.
I don’t see why we need to vote for ST3 | Cartoon for Oct. 41 – Frank Shiers
The TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership – 12 country trade agreement written by corporations in secret, with no public input) is for the benefit of corporations but not for the people. It will be brought to a vote in Congress after the elections, at the time when many congresspersons are leaving office and have no need to please their constituents. It is being pushed as a good thing by the administration, polls appear to be in favor at first glance, but if you look further, you’ll find that 67 percent of the people either know very little or nothing about it. I have not talked to one person who is for it.
Pollution effects over 100 million people, that’s comparable to diseases like HIV. More than three million children under age 5 die annually from environmental factors.
Do your parents love you? Is love sending you off to a place where you’re stripped of your self worth and traumatized for life?
According to Google, the definition of gender equality is: “The state in which access to rights or opportunities is unaffected by gender. Legislation that reflected the principles of gender equality.” No matter the gender, everybody should have the same rights. The reason why this is such an important issue is that everyone can have a better future if treated equally. Everyone is affected by gender inequality even if you aren’t a victim of rape or discriminated against based on your gender. Someone you know and/or love may have been a victim. Based on our genders we are given specific roles. Men are supposed to be providers and women are supposed to be at home moms, doing all the chores. This is not how today’s society is supposed to be. We have evolved.
Meth. Got a nasty feeling thinking about it didn’t you? I’m willing to bet everyone in this room has some sort of story about that horrid drug. If it be you, your sibling, your parent, or someone you know. I felt sharing my story could be helpful for someone who is also having to deal with the aftermath of an addict in their life.
Our earth is covered by 30 percent of forests and if the current deforestation rate continues there will be no more forests within the next 100 years. Current rates at one and a half acres of trees or forest is cut down every second or 20 football fields is cut down every minute.Deforestation accounts for 2,400 yards a minute. Deforestation accounts for 15 percent carbon emission. Deforestation accounts for 12-17 percent of greenhouse emissions. Deforestation accounts for possibly 28,000 species to be extinct in the next quarter century. Deforestation destroys our planet.
Imagine this is how your day goes. You wake up, laying in some else’s garbage, brushing your teeth in it, watching TV while sitting on it, and sometimes even having to eat all the garbage. Sea animals are being forced to do this every day. There is an unbelievable amount of pollution in our oceans, all over the world. Sea animals are having to live in it, swim in it, and even end up eating a lot of it.

Oct. 22 is International Stuttering Awareness Day. Did you know that 70 million people worldwide stutter – more than the population of France?

Can you imagine a world without apples, strawberries, carrots, cocoa, coffee, or cotton? That means no fruit, no vegetables, no Starbucks, less clothes, etc… This will all be a reality if bees go extinct.
The City of Kenmore has its first ever proposition on the ballot this November. Having moved to Kenmore twenty three years ago with my growing family, it is very exciting to finally see the promise of local government come to fruition. I voted for the incorporation of the City of Kenmore with perhaps naïve hope for immediate improvement. My neighbors and family especially hoped for more open space along our very expansive shoreline. After lots of complaining about not much to show for the incorporation, it’s finally time to put our money where our mouths are by voting yes for Kenmore’s “Prop. 1 – Walkways and Waterways”. This proposition authorizes the City of Kenmore to fund new pedestrian sidewalks and bicycle safety improvements, and to construct, and improve waterfront access through the issuance of general obligation bonds. These improvements will improve the quality of life for our citizens and increase property values for a relatively small price tag.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Shelley since our kids were in grade school. From the beginning, she was happy to help out with vision screenings, fundraisers, field trips, and the like, but she really found her home in the advocacy committee. In no time she was learning about the issues that faced our kids, and wrote legislators to share the needs of students. She moved up in the ranks to serve on the PTSA council, recruiting and training advocacy chairs. She went to Olympia on many PTA Focus Day events to meet legislators and advocate for kids. Eventually, she served for two years as the legislative director for the Washington State PTA, and I’ve joined her in Olympia and have seen her in action. She was never afraid to speak up and ask the hard questions.
Trump supporters, I have good news and bad news. The good news is, your neighbor’s vote won’t help Clinton get elected. The bad news is, your vote won’t help Trump get elected.
I am writing in support of Kenmore Proposition 1, Walkways and Waterways.
