I cried when I heard the news. I cried for my city and for Bob Stowe.
A thankful reply to Bothell Mayor Andy Rheaume regarding the Fitzgerald subarea Zone 1 properties east of 39th Ave S.E. about to enter a mediation process:
Last night the Bothell City Council added a visitors section to their agenda even though it was a Study Session where public comment is not usually taken. This was done primarily to give residents an opportunity to talk about the termination of former city manager [Bob] Stowe. While the room was pretty full, only 13 people spoke with 10 either questioning why Stowe was let go or in support of the job he had done.
Snohomish County is facing an unprecedented heroin epidemic with devastating consequences for our families, schools, and quality of life. Experience has shown that you cannot arrest your way out of drug addiction, homelessness, and mental illness. Therefore, we fully support the Snohomish County Council’s decision to give voters the opportunity to decide how we will address the heroin epidemic and associated problems. There is a complicated relationship between mental illness, drug addiction, homelessness, and crime, and we need to address that nexus of problems by taking a holistic, system-wide approach that actually works.
Saturday morning before Mother’s Day, I sit remembering my mom, all the love and joy she brought to my life and the lives of countless others.
During almost three decades of recycling in the Puget Sound region, Waste Management has seen big changes in the industry. As the largest residential recycler in North America and in the Puget Sound, our business is constantly changing to meet the shifting consumer habits and evolving markets.

With all the attention given the heated contest for the Republican Party presidential nomination, it’s easy to forget the battle to become the Democratic nominee isn’t over.
With seven weeks left in the school year, it definitely feels like things are ratcheting up rather than winding down. I suppose that’s the way it is every spring, but this spring seems much more hectic than normal. I want to alert you to a few items of particular importance in the coming weeks:
Donald Trump is marching toward the Republican presidential nomination and Washington is one of his next stops.
The Beardslee Public House, despite its size and location on the side of a hill off I-405 in Bothell, certainly has something of a traditional “pub” atmosphere. Though the ceilings are high and the space is expansive, the walls and floors are warmly designed with autumn colors. Diners are able to sit comfortably and relax at booths and tables long enough and wide enough to seat King Arthur’s court.

One of the best kept secrets in Bothell is an established trail system within a forested canopy of about 75 acres, situated on the west side of the City and on the south edge of Snohomish County. It’s mostly west and north of Shelton View Elementary School.
I saw the Letter to the Editor, titled “The City of Kenmore should be more sensitive to the bird it uses as a symbol,” dated April 27 and wanted to respond.
I don’t live in Kenmore, but for the last few years have looked forward to visiting there in the spring.
With the long, warm, sunny days of summer ahead, tens of thousands of Americans nationwide will spend their days outside. However, with electronic media use at an all-time high, the 12,484 eight to 18 year-old kids in the Bothell/Kenmore area may be sitting on a couch with their attention on a screen. A Kaiser Family Foundation survey discovered that within this age group, children spend a daily average of seven hours and 38 minutes using electronic media; this calculates to 53 hours per week.

I can easily picture the concrete plant in Kenmore becoming a sort of Granville Island, with a public market, hotels, restaurants and a focus on art and art education.

It’s with appreciation that I thank the Bothell Reporter for increasing awareness on the “deconstruction” of the SR 520 floating bridge, where it is proposed that the old SR 520 floating bridge be towed up-lake to the city of Kenmore and demolished … and The Daily World for increasing awareness regarding the devastating erosion the community of North Cove (12 miles south of Westport, Wash. on SR 105) is sustaining.
