Dr. Ana Mari Cauce, interim president of the University of Washington, will deliver the keynote address at UW Bothell’s 24th Commencement on Sunday June 14, 2015. The ceremony will take place at the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion on the UW Seattle campus.

Crews with King County’s clean-water utility responded quickly early Monday morning to a wastewater overflow from a manhole on the North Creek Interceptor, a major regional sewer line in service since 1970.
Science Olympiad teams from Bothell High School, Canyon Park and Kenmore junior high schools competed at the Northwest Regional Science Olympiad Tournament at Highline College. Bothell’s Blue and White teams took first and eighth respectively, Canyon Park’s Blue and Gold teams took first and fourth respectively and Kenmore’s team took tenth. Bothell’s Blue team and both of Canyon Park’s teams join five teams from Inglemoor High School and Northshore Junior High School in advancing to the state competition, April 18, at Highline College in Des Moines.
The Northshore School District seeks applicants for a newly created committee, the Start Time Task Force, that will be responsible for facilitating and implementing a later high school start time of no earlier than 8 a.m. for high school students by the 2017-18 school year. Task force representation will include parents, staff members and a community member.

The Interstate 405 express toll lanes rate will be decided this week when Washington State Transportation Commission holds a final hearing on its rate proposal at 6:30 p.m. on March 18, at Kirkland City Hall. The express toll lanes will open later this year on the north end of I-405 between Bellevue and Lynwood.

However, e-cigarettes use among youth is increasing. One in five King County high school seniors reports vaping or e-cigarette use, which is double the number that smokes cigarettes.

The Metropolitan King County Council today gave its approval of its yearly reorganization with the reappointment of Councilmember Larry Phillips as Council Chair. The Council also approved retaining Jane Hague, who represents most of Kirkland on the council, and Joe McDermott as the Council’s Vice Chairs.
There are signs everywhere – figuratively and literally – of the new Interstate 405 express toll lanes between Bellevue and Lynnwood. Starting this week, WSDOT began testing the two new electronic toll-rate signs along the highway.
The House of Representatives voted 84-14 to pass Rep. Derek Stanford’s (D – Bothell) bill to strengthen safety regulations for the transportation of railroad workers to and from work on March 10. Stanford represents north Kirkland from the 1st District.
The Inglemoor High School Instrumental Music Boosters will hold a music event called Out Loud! from 6:30-9 p.m. on March 27 at Cascadia Community College’s Mobius Hall. The even will raise funds for the booster club to benefit music students at the high school.
King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg was seeing a disturbing trend in specific domestic violence cases. He is trying to solve that issue with a Proposed Family Intervention and Restorative Services Center. He briefed the Metropolitan King County Council’s Law, Justice, Health and Human Services Committee on March 11.
The Washington State Department of Transportation will shut down all westbound lanes of State Route 520 across Lake Washington between 92nd Avenue Northeast and Montlake Boulevard beginning at 11 p.m. on March 13. A single westbound lane of SR 520 will also be closed at times between Montlake Boulevard and Interstate 5. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on March 16.
